Art Contest

Trans-Northern Pipelines is holding an Art Contest based on the theme “Your Vision of Truth and Reconciliation in Canada” to support the growth and promotion of Indigenous youth artists in our operating areas. 

Prizes 

  • 1st Prize – $2,000 
  • 2nd Prize – $1,000 
  • 3rd Prize – $500 

Winning entries will be used in the following ways: 

  • Display of reproductions of the artwork, and the description, in Trans-Northern offices 
  • Reproductions will also be used in: 
  1. Trans-Northern Reconciliation Action Plan documents 
  1. Internal and external reconciliation communications, including on the website
  1. Winning entrants will receive a framed collage of winning entries 
  1. Winning entries may be used by Trans-Northern employees as backgrounds in our Teams meetings 

Contest Rules 

Registration Deadline: December 1, 2025 

Art Submission Deadline: March 1, 2026 (collectively, each registration and submission together is an “entry”) 

Entrants must be from invited communities and be between 16 and 35 years of age. 

All entries must include a short description (2-3 paragraphs) of what their art represents and what it means to the artist. 

Artwork mediums accepted: Paintings, drawings, collages, photography/digital 

Entries will be declared invalid if: 

  • They are submitted late or are ineligible, incomplete, non-compliant or forged. 
  • There is a brand or a logo, like the logo of an Indigenous community, sports team, business, restaurant or chain of cafés, anywhere on them. 
  • They portray another person or a nation, country, ethnic group, race, religion, age group, sex, gender, sexual orientation or disability in a negative manner. 
  • They contain elements that are deemed offensive or inappropriate, including but not limited to nudity, vulgarity or violence. 

All original artwork will be returned to the artist.

All winning entries may be incorporated, either individually or as a collage, into published Trans-Northern Reconciliation Action Plan documents, displays, and on internal and external reconciliation communications, including on our website. 

While winning entrants retain copyright in the works submitted, by taking part in the Contest, they grant Trans-Northern the right to reproduce, publish, display and use the works in all media and by all means of distribution for the purposes described here, and waives their moral rights in favour of Trans-Northern for such purposes. 

The contest is not open to the selection panel or employees of Trans-Northern. 

Personal information provided by entrants will be used for administrative purposes in connection with the contest, except that entrants’ names may be used for attribution of their art. 

Winners will be notified prior to the announcement of winners by email and phone. If a winner does not respond within 5 business days, the next-placed entry will be selected. If Trans-Northern is unable to reach a winner within this period, or if that winner refuses to accept the prize, Trans-Northern is released from any obligation to that winner with respect to the prize. 

Trans-Northern reserves the right to cancel or suspend the Art Contest at its sole discretion, for any reason whatsoever. 

Trans-Northern reserves the right to change, without notice, the Art Contest rules, the prizes or any terms.  

Submissions Process 

  • Complete entries should be submitted digitally, by mail/courier, or in-person to a Trans-Northern office (by appointment only). Individual details can be confirmed with Cheryl Forner at c[email protected]
  • Each entry must include an original work with the entrant’s name, a short description (2-3 paragraphs) of what their art represents and what it means to the artist (this description may accompany the piece of art in our Reconciliation Action Plan, displays, and on our website), and a submission form completed by the entrant, or their parent or legal guardian.
